Postal code Zip/ Postal Code in Vietnam

What is the postal code or national zip code of Vietnam?

Postal code, also known as zip code or postal code, is a series of characters written in letters, numbers, or a combination of both, added to the recipient's address to identify the final destination of mail or parcels.

Per Decision No. 2334/QĐ-BKHCN issued by the Ministry of Science and Technology, effective from August 24, 2025, Vietnam's postal codes (Zip/Postal Codes) have been officially standardized to 05 (five) characters. This decision supersedes Decision No. 2475/QĐ-BTTTT dated December 29, 2017, issued by the Ministry of Information and Communications, which had been in effect since January 1, 2018.

The use of Zip/Postal Codes enables parcels, goods, letters, and packages to be delivered to their destination faster and more accurately, while also supporting convenient and efficient address lookup.

Standard structure of the national postal code

  • The first (01) character identifies the region code, with Vietnam divided into 10 regions (numbered from 0-9).
  • The first two (02) characters identify the province or centrally governed city.
  • The first three (03) or four (04) characters identify the district, commune, or equivalent administrative unit.
  • All five (05) characters identify the entity assigned the national postal code.
